Old Age Home Diabetes Awareness
Our recent diabetes awareness session in Mumbai at an old age home brought together senior citizens for an enlightening discussion on managing diabetes. We fostered a sense of community among our elderly friends, ensuring that no one has to manage diabetes alone 👵💪 Kudos to our volunteers! See the photos above and a short video clip below-
4 School Diabetes Awareness & Screening Programs
Did you know that India has the highest number of children & adolescents living with type 1 diabetes? Blue Circle Diabetes Foundation organised 4 School Diabetes Awareness Programmes & blood sugar screening camps in August in & around Pune, India- the first one, a rural School Diabetes Awareness Programme and blood sugar screening camp for over 350 students and staff on 16th August at Venkateshwara School for kids from from low income families, in Panshet village, near Pune, India. We were warmly welcomed by the school administration and the students! Help make a difference & please get in touch with us on support@bluecircle.foundation if you would like to arrange similar sessions at your school or organisation.

The second school diabetes awareness and screening program we organised was for over 300 students (from grades 3 to 6) and staff on 20th August at Pujya Kasturba Gandhi English & Marathi School, for kids from from low income families in Pune, India.
We also met with a teacher with pre-existing type 1 diabetes & 2 staff with pre-existing type 2 diabetes. See below photos and videos from the session-

The third rural school diabetes awareness and screening program we organised was for over 600 students and staff on 22nd August at Lokseva English School, for kids from from low income families from Maharashtra & Nagaland in Phulgaon village, Haveli Taluka, Pune district
We also met with a teacher with pre-existing type 3c diabetes, 1 staff with type 2 & we diagnosed another teacher and student with elevated blood sugar levels - we have advised the school administration that they seek medical assistance immediately & will follow up.

T1D Events in Rajasthan
Nupur & Snehal represented the Blue Circle Diabetes Foundation community, along with diabetes advocates from across India in Rajasthan. The weekend began in Udaipur with a multi sectoral dialogue on type 1 diabetes & non-communicable diseases in children organised by Breakthrough T1D & UNICEF & hosted by Padmaja Kumari Parmar, from the former royal house of Udaipur in Rajasthan who also lives with type 1 diabetes.
From Udaipur we headed to Jaipur, right into the Eastern Rajasthan floods in Jaipur. At the T1D conclave, the NCD department of the Government of Rajasthan & the National Health Mission launched its Type 1 Diabetes program to strengthen delivery of services and care for those living with T1 in the state of Rajasthan. Speakers included Rajasthan's health minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar, doctors & as well as Nupur who was on a panel of lived experience experts. High Level Roundtable on UHC & population ageing
Nupur was invited as a panelist at a high-level roundtable discussion on Universal Health Coverage in Low and Middle Income Countries in Asia by the International Longevity Centre, UK. The panel discussed the need to reorient health systems to better prepare for population ageing, making UHC in Asian low & middle income countries a reality for all & potential for improvements in policy priorities to benefit older people.
11th World Congress on Prevention of Diabetes, Mumbai
Snehal was a speaker at the 11th World Congress on Prevention of Diabetes and its Complications in Mumbai. She spoke about the need for T1D advocacy in India 🇮🇳 at the Breakthrough T1D DRS symposium

The Buddy Project Helpline is our mobile app based psychosocial helpline for diabetes and mental health. 10 trained volunteers living with diabetes (type 1, type 2 & caregivers), speaking 9 different languages (English, Hindi, Dutch, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Telugu, Tamil and Punjabi) are here to listen to you without judgements. If you feel lost, depressed, anxious, panicky, suicidal or generally upset, please schedule a call with us. These are tough times but remember you are NOT alone, your community stands with you.
How to call the Buddy Project helpline
Open the Blue Circle Diabetes app > Buddy Project > Schedule tab > pick a buddy of your choice > Schedule a call (once you schedule you'll see it under the 'Meetings' tab > 10 minutes prior to the call, you'll receive an app notification/reminder > To join the call, open the app, go to Buddy Project & under the 'Meetings' tab, press the 'Join' button (video is off by default, can switch on as per preference)
